About Us

Hatteras Island’s Seafood Restaurant

One of the owners of the den is a 10th generation Hatteras Islander.  We know much of the history of the island, as the family has been here since the early 1700’s.  The other owner has over 40 years in the restaurant business.  He also played pro ball for the old Baltimore Colts, so eating is his specialty.

The core staff is local, a sandy bunch, and know much about the water and the sports it allows.  We can talk to you about Hatteras Island history, good food, football, fishing, surfing, and wind sports.

We have eight Cape Hatteras lighthouse keepers in our family tree, including the first and the last.  The high school library is dedicated to Charles P. Gray, our grandfather, an educator.  Our mother has 96 years of island history to recant.

It is a pleasure to bring good fresh hand breaded and hand cut food to you in a timely fashion.  Our lineage requires it.  We grew up on seafood, and we know how to prepare it.  All desserts are our own recipes made totally on premises, and our food recipes are old style island cooking.  Enjoy!

Be sure to check out the early bird specials before 5pm.  If you have a large group, and hate lines, please consider “Our Meals, Your Wheels”.  A separate menu of items may not be offered on the regular menu, but prepared fresh to your call, daily, and in large quantities: ribs, prime rib, chickens, seafood casseroles, only food that travels well.
